Daily Habits for Brain Health: A Small-Steps Guide

Sleep, movement, screen breaks and mental exercise — a practical look at everyday habits that support brain health.

Sleep: the brain's maintenance hours

Regular sleep is when the brain repairs itself and consolidates the day. Consistent bed times, leaving screens before bed, and a cool dark room are the three simplest supports.

Movement: blood flow to the brain

Regular light exercise such as brisk walking is widely recognized to support mental freshness. Breaking up long sitting with a few minutes of walking every hour is the easiest start.

Screen breaks

Long uninterrupted screen time tires the eyes and attention. The 20-20-20 rule helps: every 20 minutes, look about 6 meters (20 feet) away for 20 seconds.

Keeping the mind engaged

New skills, puzzles, reading and warm social ties all provide stimulation. Aim for small sustainable habits rather than one big move.

Important note

This is general lifestyle information; it is not medical advice and does not replace a physician's evaluation. For persistent complaints such as headache, numbness or weakness, see a physician without delay.
